The ONCHAIN® embedded wallet is built on smart account architecture. This means your assets are held at a smart contract wallet address, not a traditional seed-phrase wallet.
Why this matters
The wallet app may show an “export” option. While this technically exports the underlying controller account (an externally owned account, or EOA), it does not export the smart contract account that actually holds your assets.
As a result, if you import the exported key into another wallet app like MetaMask, you may not see your assets there—because you’re looking at the controller account, not the smart account.
Are my assets safe?
Yes. Your assets are yours and remain secure in the smart account wallet address. The export function doesn’t move or affect your funds—it just doesn’t provide a way to access the smart account from a seed phrase.
How to move assets to another wallet
If you want to use a different wallet (e.g. MetaMask, Trust Wallet), the workaround is to send assets from your ONCHAIN® Wallet to your desired wallet address:
Open your ONCHAIN® Wallet.
Select the asset → Send.
Paste your destination wallet address.
Confirm the network and review network fees.
Send.
Best practice for future purchases
When buying through ONCHAIN®, you can also select a third-party wallet during checkout instead of using the embedded wallet. This way, your crypto will go directly to the wallet of your choice without extra steps.
